Assessment 4 – Submission 1
Nowadays, algorithms play an important role in selecting the information that is most relevant to us. It makes it easier for us to use social media platforms. This bit of video will show you how algorithms relate to Facebook and how Facebook algorithms work. Facebook algorithms control the ordering and presentation of posts, so users can see what is most relevant to them. The Like button has been central to Facebook’s user experience, helping Facebook engineers figure out which posts make users happy and bored. Facebook’s algorithm is the most complex of the three popular social networks, twitter, Facebook and Instagram. When logging into Facebook, the algorithm takes into account hundreds of variables and can predict whether a user likes, clicks, comments, shares, hides or even marks posts as spam. the algorithm predicts each of these outcomes with a certain degree of confidence. Also, , Facebook users get priority access to pages they follow and posts from friends. Both friends and followers can see the News Feed at the top first. Finally, to figure out if people like the video they see, facebook started monitoring other forms of video engagement, such as turning on the audio, switching to full-screen mode or enabling high definition. When the user turns up the volume on video and sets the video to full screen, the algorithm will see it as if you appreciate this type of video and show more video-like content. In order to provide the best experience for these users, Facebook and its team of engineers are constantly learning about user behavior and capturing signals to show what types of content each user is most interested in and create a better experience for users.
